Sri Lanka

Located in the heart of the island, Kandy, also called Senkadagalapura, is the religious capital of the country.

The sacred city is home to an artificial lake around which several remarkable monuments are concentrated, including the Dalada Maligawa temple which has housed the Tooth of the Buddha since the 16th century, and the Royal Palace.

The Temple of the Tooth of the Buddha is a major place of pilgrimage which hosts numerous ceremonies which are always preceded by a roll of drums.
